As I played along, I noticed a couple of glitches that I'd spotted had been fixed, though one particularly irksome problem remained: it's nearly impossible to get the game to enter its full-screen mode. As you earn these nanos, determining what bonuses they provide will help determine how you'll play the game, as they replace the function of spells and special attacks that most MMO players are used to.Īll in all, things in the final release version of FusionFall really aren't all that different from what was shown in the preview last month. A nano is earned after the player defeats an evil doppleganger, and then the player can choose one of three abilities for the nano to provide. One of the major features in the game is the inclusion of "nanos," which are miniaturized versions of Cartoon Network characters that provide short-term abilities to be used in combat. General areas around the game world are peppered with imaginatively-designed enemies, and boss battles take place in containment zones that have been erected to keep out the worst of Planet Fusion's corruption from spreading to the rest of the world. One of the best things about the game is still its style: not only does the unique visual style of the game stand out, but the voice-acting for almost all the CNU characters is actually provided by the actors who played the roles on TV, too.Īs mentioned before in our preview, the first few hours of play take place in a future where Planet Fusion is winning the war, and it's up to players to work with other characters to get a time machine working that will send them back in time in order to stop the invasion before it gets out of control. The story itself is still the same as before: players are recruited to help combat the forces of Planet Fusion before it absorbs the planet facing off against dark clones of allies like Dexter, the Powerpuff Girls, and Samurai Jack. if there was ever a character made to help prevent the end of the Cartoon Network Universe, Courage seems like a prime choice.
That said, though, one can't help but feel a little sad that characters like Johnny Bravo and Courage the Cowardly Dog have yet to make an appearance.
By providing a mix of platforming and MMORPG combat/leveling, as well as a story that will most likely appeal to the vast majority of Cartoon Cartoons fans, though, the game is actually surprisingly fun.Īs embarrassing as it is to admit, I've always been a fan of the vast majority of Cartoon Network's original series, so I still find myself charmed by the idea of fighting alongside many of the characters I've watched over the years. Cartoon Network's new MMO, FusionFall, faces the daunting task of providing a quality gameplay experience for gamers ranging in age from kids to adults.
